FFL Notes From Past Weeks FFL Notes - Post Season Play 12/28/99 The Slippery Rocks became the 10th different FFL team to win the Super Bowl as Edgerrin James led the way with three touchdowns in the title game. Heading into the Monday night game, the Trotters led with 40 points over the Slippery Rocks (34) and the Nads (23). The only player playing on Monday was the Rocks' Tony Martin. Martin delivered for the Slippery Rocks by catching a 32 yard touchdown in the 3rd quarter to give the Rocks 44 points and their first FFL title. In the NIT, the Old Fogeys needed a big game on Monday night from both Martin and Wayne Chrebet to overcome the 69ers lead. Both receivers scored on long plays to lead the Old Fogeys to victory. FFL Notes - Post Season Play 12/23/99 This weekend the playoffs continue with the three conference champions playing in the Super Bowl. The Nads are trying to become the first two time FFL champion as the Slippery Rocks and Fobes Trotters are attempting to win their first title. The NIT consolation tournament matches the finalist of each conference with the 69ers, Mean Machine, and Old Fogeys going for the prize. FFL Notes - Post Season Play 12/14/99 This weekend the playoffs continue with the three conference championship games. The Primadonnas and Nads are both trying to repeat as conference champions. The NIT consolation tournament enters it's second week of play with 9 teams still in the hunt. FFL Notes - Post Season Play 12/07/99 The post season tournaments are set. The top four teams in each conference will be battling it out in the playoffs as they begin their march toward week sixteen's Super Bowl. The remaining teams will be participating in the NIT consolation tournament. This is the first year of the NIT. This tournament will feature all non-playoff teams playing in head to head competition this week. The three winners in each conference will play head to head next week with the three conference representatives playing for a $50 prize in week 16. Bowl Games Bowl games will be played in week 17. Each team will be invited to a bowl game based on record and points scored. Better teams will be invited to better bowl games and hopefully matched up with teams from other conferences. Each week the bowl committee will be announcing some of the up coming bowl game match-ups. This week the committee announced the top and bottom bowl games. The Rose Bowl will feature the top two scoring teams during the regular season with the Big Valley 69ers taking on the Fobes Trotters. The Toilet Bowl will have the Norwegian Wood going against the Bangkok Schlong-Smashers. All-Stars and Rookie of the Year All-Stars and the Rookie of the Year awards are based on regular season performance. The first team All-Stars are quarterback Kurt Warner; running backs Stephen Davis and Edgerrin James; wide receivers Marvin Harrison, Cris Carter, and Issac Bruce; and Mike Vanderjagt is the kicker. Check the player statistics of week 13 to see who made it onto the second team. This year's rookie of the year award goes to Edgerrin James. Bohemians Win Mid-Season Classic The Mid-Season Classic was won by the Bohemians as they defeated the 69ers 34-30 to win the top prize of $100. FFL Notes - Playoffs One Week Away!12/01/99 With the playoffs just a week away, this is the most important week of the season for a few teams as they try to battle their way into the big dance. In the American Conference, the Slippery Rocks are in the playoffs as they win their fourth consecutive Black and Blue Division crown. The other three playoff spots will be decided this weekend. The 69ers, who could lead the FFL in scoring, may miss the playoffs. To get in, they need help. The 69ers must win this week and have either the Holes, Bart-Men, or Primadonnas lose (as they more than likely win the tie-breaker). The Holes, Bart-Men, and Primadonnas need just a win to get into the playoffs. All three teams will be favorites to win this week, but they all lost to underdogs last weekend. The Who has a two game winning streak and can claim a wild card spot by beating the 69ers if they out score the Holes and the Holes lose to the Express. In the National Conference, both the Nads and Bohemians are in the playoffs for the third consecutive year. The division title is still up for grabs as the Nads moved into a tie for the division with a win over the Bohemians last week. The Dick Tators have a safe point lead and are probably in the playoffs. The Dick Tators were 2-4 early in the year and grumbling about a Toilet Bowl berth before running off 5 straight wins. The battle for the final playoff spot and the T & A Division title is between three 6-6 teams. The Hosers were 5-1 after 6 weeks and cruising toward a third straight division crown when they hit the skids. The Mean Machine have lost their last two games after moving into first place. The Tunas were in last place as late as week 9 and are now in the hunt riding a three game winning streak in the division that it seems no one wants to win. The Hosers and Tunas play this week. If the Tunas win they are in the playoffs for a fourth consecutive year. If the Hosers win, they must have the Mean Machine lose or out score the Mean Machine by 25 points. The Mean Machine, who lost to the Hosers last week, are hoping the Hosers beat the Tunas, but not by scoring a ton of points. In the Continental Conference, the Trotters, Purple Helmets, and Bike Racks are in the playoffs. With the Trotters win over the Purple Helmets last week, the two teams are tied for the division and both hoping for a big game this weekend which will enable them to not only take the division title, but possibly the high point award as well. The Bike Racks have wrapped up the Tongue and Groove Division, but with a three game losing streak, need a win to build a little momentum going into the playoffs. With the Bike Racks 11 point underdogs to the Helmets this week, a win could be tough. The final playoff spot will go to the winner of this week's Rockies vs. Gregs showdown as the Old Fogeys knocked the Will Knots out of contention last week. With both the Rockies and Gregs 6 and 6 on the season, both averaging 28 points a game and riding two game winning streaks, this should be a great game. In addition to the playoffs, there will be a Consolation Playoff this year for the first time. The Consolation Playoff will include the 18 teams that do not make the playoffs and will take place the same three weeks as the playoffs. If anyone would like to give input on what type of format we should use, please comment on the FFL Message Board. FFL Notes 11/16/99 With three weeks remaining in the regular season, the Bike Racks magic number is 1 as they only need one more win to capture the Tongue and Groove Division crown. The closest division top to bottom is the T and A Division. Only two games separate the top and bottom teams. The Hosers have now lost 4 games in a row and dropped into second place. The Mean Machine scrapped by the Wolf Signs by a score of 19-18. If the Wolf Signs had won, there would have been only 1 game separating the top and bottom teams. For the teams that see their playoff hopes slipping away, don't forget the Consolation Playoffs. This year, all teams not making the playoffs will play in the Consolation Playoffs. The winner takes home $50. The Bohemians win this week's heart break award. After losing 61-51 last week to the Dick Tators, they were beat this week by the Tunas 61-56. Rumor has it the defensive coordinator is about to be let go as the team is 0-2 the last two weeks with the offense scoring 107 points. This writer's favorite FFL team name of the week is the Topanga Surfer Dudes. This team competed in the FFL for eight years before retiring after last season. I had never heard of Topanga until one day while driving in Southern California a few years ago I made a right turn off the highway to head down a long two lane road to the beach. Upon reaching the little beach town I noticed a sign welcoming me to Topanga. It was a very cool area with the surfers, beach bums, and babes. It was that day I realized what a great name the Topanga Surfer Dudes was. The Power Scouts have completed their evaluations of each FFL team. FFL teams are listed based on the Power Points scored by each team. The Bart-Men and Trotters each scored 60 Power Points. FFL Notes
11/9/99 The trade deadline was last
Sunday. Hope everyone is happy with their team. This past week, 56% of FFL
teams submitted their line-ups via this web page. We are hoping for 100%
next year. If you have a new free agent pick-up and he is not part of the
line-up check box area, specify in the comment section that you want to start
your new player. FFL Notes 10/27/99 The first thing we must all remember, is this is called FANTASY FOOTBALL. It is a GAME....it is not that important. It is a game of a little skill, and a lot of luck. It is for FUN. It gives us something to look forward to during the football season. Last week this page picked on a few teams and it seems a few people got a little hot under the collar when they read the FFL Notes. They thought I should remember what my mother always told me when I was growing up....."If you cannot say anything nice, do not say anything at all". Well, the most boring paragraph from last week talked about the two toughest teams in the league. I am sure those two teams enjoyed reading it, but the other 28 teams quickly read on for something better. It was nice to hear that others enjoyed seeing a little print and that is one thing that they have missed this year. The FFL Notes will point out positive and negative things. Hopefully no one will take offense to it. We would love it if people would send in comments, whether they are good or bad. Just email them or include them with your line-up in the comments section and we will work them into the FFL Notes. The blunder of the week goes to the Steamrollers. They submitted their starting line-up including James Jett on Friday morning. Friday evening they called in a transaction picking up Amani Toomer and dropping James Jett. Problem is they forgot to adjust their starting line-up, and lost out on the touchdowns of both Jett and Toomer. Big spender of the week award goes to the Bohemians. They were the only National Conference team requesting Patrick Jeffers last week as a free agent. They put Eric Moulds on IR and bid "everything under the cap" for Jeffers. With Michael Irvin on the Practice Squad and Moulds on IR, they probably didn't realize they were $14 under the cap. It looks as though the Who got a bargain signing Jeffers the same week for only $2 in the American Conference. When the P-Neckers submitted their starting line-up last week, they sent the comment; "Need a win, against a division leader, looking to defeat an undefeated foe, co-owner making noises about GM and Coach, turmoil in Poulsbo". The threats must have inspired the P-Neckers as they knocked off the Bike Racks 37-21. With that win, the P-Neckers moved into playoff contention as the 4th ranked Continental conference team. The Bart-Men, ranked as one of the top FFL teams, are strutting their stuff in the Whips and Chains Division. They're in first place with a 4-0 division record. They just have a little problem going against the Black and Blue Division with a 0-3 record for the year. With only two more non-division games on the schedule, they should finish 8-5 on top of their division. This writer's favorite team name of the week is the Fobes Trotters. Having grown up on Fobes Hill with horses and chariots in the neighborhood, the name of Fobes Trotters takes me back about 30 years. Great name. The Trade Deadline is 10:00am, Sunday, November 7th. The rules state the deadline is November 1st, but the NFL started one week later this year than in past years. We have extended the trade deadline one week. FFL Notes 10/21/99 This FFL season has not gone the way we all expected it to when we were preparing for the auction. In past years, simply having Terrell Davis meant having a good shot at making the playoffs. The Express, Tunas, and Wood were banking on Terrell to lead them to the promise land and spent good money on the perennial all-star. Terrell is not the only all-star from last year to go down this season. Steve Young, Vinny Testaverde, Jamal Anderson, and Fred Taylor have all missed a few games with Vinny and Jamal out for the year. The season has been especially tough on the Rockies. The Rockies were the pre-auction favorite to win the Super Bowl with Randy Moss as a $10 hold over. With injuries to both Young and Jamal Anderson, the Rockies are not even expected to make the playoffs. They currently have only three receivers on their roster, but with an active roster salary total of only $28, they can buy any free agent they want the rest of the year. The Taco-Divers is another team that has struggled this season. They are averaging a FFL low 18 points a game, and have fielded a full team in just 3 of the 6 weeks. They only drafted one quarterback, Jeff George, which left the Divers without a QB in week 1. Now that George has value, he has been stolen from the Divers practice squad this week. In week 5, they started Derrick Mayes who was playing golf during his bye week, in place of their star Antonio Freeman. Antonio’s 17 points on the bench cost the Divers a win. The Divers had high hopes when the season started as they were building a team around stars Jamal Anderson and Antonio Freeman, but now they need to win games just to stay out of the Toilet Bowl. With some of the big stars going down this year, we find fantasy surprises Kurt Warner leading all quarterbacks and Stephen Davis leading all running backs. The 69ers, Hosers, and Trotters have all benefited from Warner’s great start, and the Bart-Men, Bohemians, and Purple Helmets have all been scoring with Davis. The two toughest teams in the league at this point are the Purple Helmets and the Bart-Men. The two teams are averaging 45 and 42 points a game. They have high game scores this season of 76 and 75 points, and are 1 and 2 in the High Roller competition. Both teams are solid at all positions. The Bart-Men have more depth at running back, but the Purple Helmets have better receivers. After six weeks, there are still two undefeated teams. The Bike Racks and the Bohemians have both started the season with 6 straight wins. The Bohemians have a solid team with a good quarterback and four legitimate running backs. The receiver position has weakened the last couple of weeks with Irvin and Moulds out with injuries, and Galloway listening to bad advice from his agent. The remaining receivers are not bad, and should keep the Bohemians competing for the division. Nine FFL teams have out scored the Bike Racks this year, and most of the FFL teams would be undefeated if they had played the Bike Racks' schedule through the first six weeks. The Bike Racks are 4-0 against their Tongue and Groove Division rivals who have scored 12, 16, 16, and 21 points against Beaverton. In one of their other two games, the opponent scored just 17 points. The Bike Racks have only played one tough game as they beat the Trotters in week one 37-29. The Bike Racks are in for a rude awakening when they face teams from the National and American Conferences in the Mid-Season Classic beginning this week.
